From Arrival to Cleanup: The Life of a Temporary Email

Temporary doesn’t mean instant deletion—or permanent storage. Here’s what happens to addresses, tokens, messages, and logs at each user-visible stage.

Address and access token generated

The service creates a random address, an expiration time, and an access token for this inbox only. Treat the token like your inbox key: don’t share it, expose it in screenshots, or enter it in external forms.

Active receiving window

Incoming messages, including the sender, subject, body, and attachments, enter the current inbox and are displayed using the token. The countdown indicates how long the inbox remains visible; it is not a promise to retain critical data.

Old access point stops working

Generating a new address invalidates the old one; destroying the inbox ends access to the current inbox. Content copied to other systems or downloaded to a device is not deleted from those locations.

Cleanup begins

You should no longer rely on the old token for access. Operational logs, security records, error queues, or backups may be cleaned up after a limited operational period to prevent abuse and restore service.

What the browser stores

The page temporarily stores the current inbox token and address so it can refresh the message list, open details, or download attachments. Closing the page, changing the address, or clearing browser data may prevent continued access. The forwarding console’s login token is stored only in the current browser session; you’ll need to verify again after signing out or ending the session.

Temporary inboxes and forwarding aliases run on different clocks

Temporary inbox

Designed for short-term tasks, with the address and content leaving your access path when the inbox expires or is destroyed. Best for email you won’t need to recover long term.

Forwarding alias

Designed for ongoing communication, with the account, alias, and delivery status retained until you pause, delete, or otherwise manage the account. Copies forwarded to an external email account are controlled by that provider.

Actions you can take

“Temporary” doesn’t mean “completely anonymous”

Using a separate email address can reduce exposure of your real inbox address. Senders, network services, browsers, and external email providers may still process IP, device, account, and payment information. When you need to understand the formal data categories, purposes, and ways to exercise your rights, see the Privacy Policy; this page is a product guide to help you make informed decisions.

Three clocks

The three data lifespans inside TempPin

3 hours

The life of a temp mailbox and everything in it. Extendable by hand; at expiry the whole box is destroyed, unrecoverable.

30 days

How long forwarded mail stays in the archive. It deletes itself on schedule; until then you can review, retry, and report misjudgements.

Until you delete

Aliases and account settings persist long-term. Pausing or deleting takes effect the moment you decide.

Top questions

What people ask about data retention

Yes. Expired temp mailboxes are destroyed and 30-day archive items are purged on schedule — both unrecoverable. Save what you need in time.

Put your next email in the right inbox

Use a temp mailbox for one-off tasks and a pausable forwarding alias for lasting contacts. Both are free.
